Date:- 28 March (Saturday)
Time:- 7:30 PM IST
Venue:- M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

The much-anticipated clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will mark one of the opening fixtures of IPL 2026.

RCB, the defending champions, will be eager to begin their title defense strongly and aim for back-to-back trophies. On the other hand, SRH will look to start their campaign on a positive note and establish early momentum in the tournament.

The Chinnaswamy Stadium, known for its short boundaries and batting-friendly conditions, is expected to produce a high-scoring encounter, as has often been the case at this venue.

Head-to-Head Record

Total Matches: 25

      RCB Wins: 11

SRH Wins: 13

No Result: 1

Historically, SRH holds a slight edge over RCB, adding more intrigue to this contest.

Emotional Start to the Season

This match carries emotional significance beyond cricket. After the tragic stampede at the Chinnaswamy Stadium last year, which resulted in the loss of nine lives during RCB’s title celebrations, the venue has now received clearance from the state government and the Board of Control for Cricket in India to host matches again.

In a mark of respect, there will be no opening ceremony for IPL 2026. Additionally, the Karnataka Cricket Association and RCB have confirmed that nine seats will remain empty in every match at the venue as a tribute to those who lost their lives.

 SRH Leadership Update

In the absence of regular captain Pat Cummins, Ishan Kishan will lead SRH for the first half of the season. Kishan comes into the tournament in excellent form, having played a key role in India’s recent T20 World Cup campaign, where he scored 317 runs at a strike rate exceeding 190. He also led Jharkhand to victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, showcasing his leadership credentials and ability to perform under pressure.

Key Players to Watch

Virat Kohli returns to IPL action after a brief break following India’s ODI series against New Zealand. Fresh and motivated, Kohli will be eager to deliver a big performance in front of the home crowd.

Abhishek Sharma remains a crucial player for SRH at the top of the order. After a slow start in the T20 World Cup, he made a strong comeback with a quickfire 52 in the final. However, his technique against deliveries outside the off stump could be tested in this match.

Ishan Kishan, apart from leading the side, will also be a key figure with the bat. His aggressive approach and recent form make him one of the most dangerous players in SRH’s lineup.

Jacob Bethell is another player to watch for RCB. The young English batter is in excellent form and recently impressed with a century in the T20 World Cup semifinal, showcasing his ability to handle high-pressure situations.

Key Player Battles

Abhishek Sharma VS Bhuvneshwar Kumar

The contest between Abhishek Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar could be crucial. Bhuvneshwar is expected to exploit Abhishek’s vulnerability outside the off stump with his swing bowling, while the SRH opener has been working on improving this aspect of his game.

Heinrich Klaasen VS Suyash Sharma

Another important battle will be between Heinrich Klaasen and Suyash Sharma. Klaasen is known for his ability to dominate spin, but his recent form has been inconsistent. Suyash Sharma, with his effective leg-spin and variations, will look to challenge him, particularly with the googly.

Josh Hazlewood(if fit) VS SRH’s top order

If fit, Josh Hazlewood could play a key role against SRH’s aggressive top order. His accuracy and ability to generate movement with the new ball will be vital against players like Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Ishan Kishan.
