Trump’s Signature to Appear on U.S. Currency, Breaking Long Tradition

In a major and unusual move, the U.S. Treasury Department has announced that the signature of Donald Trump will soon be printed on U.S. paper currency.

The decision, revealed on March 26, 2026, marks the first time in over 165 years that a sitting President’s signature will appear on American banknotes. Until now, only the Treasury Secretary and the U.S. Treasurer signed the notes.

What Will Change?

The rollout will begin with $100 bills, which are expected to start printing from June 2026. Other notes will follow later.

There is also a key change in whose names appear on the currency. The signature of current U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach will be removed to make space.

Going forward, U.S. notes will carry:

  • Donald Trump

  • Scott Bessent

Why Is This Happening?

According to officials, the change is linked to the upcoming 250th anniversary of U.S. independence (Semiquincentennial). The Treasury says the idea is to mark the milestone and highlight the country’s economic journey.

Part of a Bigger Pattern

This isn’t the only place where Trump’s name is being highlighted recently.

  • A 24-karat gold coin with his image has been approved.

  • The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has reportedly been renamed the Trump-Kennedy Center.

  • The U.S. Institute of Peace building also added his name last year.

Mixed Reactions

The move has sparked discussion.

Some experts say it’s a symbolic step tied to a historic celebration. Others feel it breaks long-standing norms, as the U.S. has traditionally avoided putting living individuals on currency to prevent comparisons with monarchies.

For now, the Treasury stands by its decision, calling it a historic but meaningful change.
