Pakistan Airstrike on Kabul Hospital Leaves Over 400 Dead

Kabul, March 17: A deadly airstrike by the Pakistan Air Force hit the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital in Kabul on March 16 night.
At least 408 people were killed and over 265 injured. The strike took place around 9 PM at the former Camp Phoenix base.
Most victims were patients and medical staff. Survivors described chaos, with many trapped under debris.
The hospital was a state-run drug rehabilitation centre serving people across Kabul. Afghan officials said it was a civilian facility.
Why Pakistan Attacked
However, Pakistan claimed the site was being used as a militant ammunition depot and said the strike was based on intelligence.
Pakistan said the attack was part of its military campaign, Operation Ghazab Lil Haq, launched in February 2026. It claims the operation targets militant groups like the TTP.
Afghanistan’s Reaction
Afghan authorities strongly condemned the strike. They called it a violation of sovereignty and a crime against humanity, warning of a strong response.
Global Reactions
The incident has triggered global concern. India termed it a barbaric act and expressed support for Afghanistan. The United Nations urged restraint, while China called for de-escalation.
Rescue operations are ongoing, and the death toll may rise. Tensions remain high along the border, with both sides increasing military activity.
