CM Mohan Majhi Orders Development of Cuttack Mahanadi Riverfront as National Tourist Destination

Bhubaneswar: In a major push to urban development and tourism, Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday reviewed the ambitious Cuttack Riverfront Development Project. The plan aims to transform the banks of the Mahanadi River into a modern, attractive and eco-friendly destination.

The government plans to develop this stretch into a world-class riverfront that blends tourism, heritage and environmental protection.
Instructions from the Chief Minister
During the review, the Chief Minister directed that the project should be developed as a national-level tourist attraction. He emphasized that flood control work should also include beautification so that the riverfront becomes visually appealing. The focus will be on combining modern infrastructure with Odisha’s cultural identity.
Focus Areas in Phase II
The second phase will include development around the Dhabaleswar Temple, one of the state’s important religious sites, along with the riverbank near National Law University Odisha. These areas are expected to strengthen tourism and create a continuous corridor connecting spiritual, educational and recreational spaces.
Vision for the Lifeline of Odisha
Describing the Mahanadi as the lifeline of Odisha, the Chief Minister highlighted the need for a balanced approach that protects the environment while improving infrastructure and boosting tourism. The project is expected to give Cuttack a new identity and attract visitors from across the country.
