Foundation Laid for New Lok Seva Bhavan, Assembly in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar is set for a major upgrade in administration and infrastructure. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday laid the foundation stone for the new Lok Seva Bhavan, marking an important step in the city’s development.

The project aims to create a modern, efficient, and citizen-friendly administrative campus.

One Campus for Key Government Offices

According to official plans:

  • The new Lok Seva Bhavan and Odisha Legislative Assembly building will be built in a single integrated campus
  • Total land area: 71.13 acres
  • Estimated cost: ₹3,623 crore
  • The master plan has already been approved

Officials said housing key institutions together will improve coordination and speed up administrative work.

Modern Facilities for Future Needs

The upcoming complex will be designed to meet long-term governance requirements.

Key features include:

  • Modern office infrastructure
  • Basement parking to reduce congestion
  • Better access for staff and visitors

Once completed, the complex is expected to improve efficiency and public service delivery.

Assembly Building to Have Over 300 Seating Capacity

Speaking about the new Legislative Assembly building, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said the structure is being planned with future expansion in mind.

  • The new Assembly will have seating capacity for more than 300 members
  • The design will accommodate population growth and future delimitation
  • Modern facilities will be provided for legislators, staff, and visitors

He said the new building would ensure the Assembly remains functional and relevant for decades to come.

New Elevated Corridor to Reduce Traffic

The state government is also focusing on easing traffic congestion in the capital.

Key highlights of the road project:

  • A dedicated elevated corridor from Jayadev Vihar to Nandankanan
  • Flyovers at:
    • Jayadev Vihar
    • Kalinga Hospital Chowk
    • Damana Chowk
    • KIIT Chowk
  • A four-lane cable-stayed bridge at Jayadev Vihar

This corridor is expected to significantly improve traffic flow on one of the city’s busiest routes.

Green Focus Alongside Development

Environmental sustainability has also been prioritised:

  • Over 22,000 trees will be planted along the corridor
  • Efforts will be made to balance infrastructure growth with greenery

Overall, the projects reflect the Odisha government’s vision to build a modern, well-connected, and efficient Bhubaneswar, improving governance and daily life for citizens.
