Government Blocks 1.75 Lakh Spam Calls

govt blocks spam calls

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has disconnected about 1.75 lakh landline and Direct Inward Dialing (DID) numbers because they were being used for spam and illegal activities.

Recently, there has been an increase in unwanted calls coming from numbers starting with 0731, 079, and 080. Many of these calls misuse telecom services like PRIs, Lease Lines, SIP, and IPLC to send spam or scam people.

Citizens have been actively reporting such calls through the Chakshu module on the Sanchar Saathi website. The DoT collects this information, investigates the complaints, and shuts down the services if they find any violations.

Telecom companies have been asked to strictly follow rules and ensure their services are not misused. They must regularly check that their customers use telecom resources for the right purposes.

The government also advises businesses and consumers to make sure their telecom services follow regulations. If they misuse them for spam or scams, their services may be disconnected, and they could face strict penalties.

People are encouraged to continue reporting spam and fraud calls through the Chakshu module on Sanchar Saathi (www.sancharsaathi.gov.in). This initiative aims to make telecom services safer and more secure for everyone.

How can people protect themselves from spam and fraud calls?

    1. Avoid answering calls from unknown or suspicious numbers.

    2. Never share personal or financial details over the phone.

    3. Report spam calls using Sanchar Saathi (www.sancharsaathi.gov.in).

    4. Enable Do Not Disturb (DND) services through your telecom provider.

Why should people continue reporting spam calls?
Reporting helps identify and block scammers, making the telecom network safer and more secure for everyone.
