The Eastern Times Quick Summary
- A 215-acre Vedic Village is taking shape in North Carolina.
- The project will feature around 180 homes, organic farming and community facilities.
- The ₹717-crore development aims to bring Indian-inspired community living to America.
What if the sights, sounds and community spirit of an Indian village could be recreated in the American countryside? That is the idea behind a unique ‘Vedic Village’ taking shape in North Carolina, where traditional Indian living is being combined with modern American amenities.
A Village Inspired by Rural India
Spread across around 215 acres, the project is planned to include nearly 180 homes, organic farming, healthcare facilities and spaces for spiritual and community activities.
But the idea goes beyond simply building houses. The village is designed to capture elements of traditional Indian life—from the sound of temple bells and conch shells to community celebrations, neighbourly interaction and growing food locally.
A Response to Modern-Day Isolation
The vision comes at a time when loneliness, stressful lifestyles and unhealthy eating habits have become concerns in many modern societies.
Indian-American entrepreneur Prakash Buchireddy, who is behind the project, believes that aspects of traditional village life can offer a different model—one built around community, nature, healthy food and social connections.
Instead of living as isolated households, residents would have opportunities to interact, participate in community activities and remain connected to the land.
₹717 Crore Project With Hundreds of Jobs
The project is estimated to cost around ₹717 crore and is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
It could also create about 378 permanent jobs, including employment linked to farming, animal husbandry and other activities within the community.
More Than a Religious Community
Despite its Vedic inspiration, the village is not intended exclusively for followers of a particular religion. The broader idea is to bring traditional Indian values of community living and a closer relationship with nature together with modern facilities.
That combination could make the project appealing even to people who are simply looking for a slower, healthier and more connected way of life.
The Idea Could Spread Beyond North Carolina
The North Carolina project may not be an isolated experiment. Plans for similar Vedic villages are also mentioned in Georgia and Tennessee.
One such concept, ‘Vanaprastha,’ is particularly aimed at creating a peaceful community for retired people.
Bringing the Village Back Into Modern Life
The Vedic Village concept represents an unusual cultural crossover: an Indian-inspired village being recreated thousands of kilometres away in America.
At its heart, the project is not just about traditional architecture or temple bells. It is an attempt to bring back something that modern urban life often loses—community, connection with nature, shared activities and a sense of belonging.
