Canada Offers Oil and LNG Supply to India Amid Middle East Energy Uncertainty

Rising tensions in the Middle East are creating uncertainty in global energy markets. The ongoing conflict in the Gulf region has raised concerns about oil shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit routes.
Any disruption in this corridor could affect energy supplies to major importers, including India, which relies heavily on crude oil imports.
Canada Steps Forward with Energy Offer
Amid these concerns, Canada has offered to supply crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) to India. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada is ready to support India’s growing energy demand and is willing to become a long-term energy partner.
The offer signals Canada’s interest in strengthening energy cooperation with one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies.
India’s Energy Demand Set to Double
Carney noted that India’s demand for energy is increasing rapidly as the economy expands and industrial activity grows. According to him, India’s total energy consumption could double by 2040.
This rising demand is expected to create significant opportunities for global energy suppliers.
Canada Highlights Resource Strength
The Canadian Prime Minister also highlighted Canada’s strong resource base. The country has large reserves of oil and natural gas and a well-developed mining sector.
He noted that nearly 40 percent of the world’s mining companies are listed in Canada, which strengthens its ability to supply critical minerals needed for industries and energy technologies.
A Potential New Energy Partnership
Experts say that closer cooperation between India and Canada could help diversify India’s energy sources at a time when geopolitical tensions are affecting traditional supply routes.
For India, securing stable and diversified energy supplies will remain a key priority as its economy and energy needs continue to grow.
