U.S. Military Strikes Yemen Fuel Terminal:
The U.S. military says it destroyed a fuel terminal in Yemen in its latest strikes against the Houthis. The attack hit the Red Sea port of Ras Isa to limit the Iranian-backed group’s supplies and money. The Houthis claim at least 38 people died, including some paramedics. This strike happened on Thursday, after the U.S. increased its attacks on the Houthis a month ago. U.S. officials haven’t yet commented on the Houthis’ reported death toll, according to Reuters.
The Iran-supported Houthi rebels started attacking ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden after the Israel-Gaza war began in October 2023. These attacks have sunk ships and made many shipping companies avoid the Red Sea, a key trade route carrying nearly 15% of global sea trade. In the past month, the U.S. has hit more Houthi targets in Yemen, including one operation accidentally revealed in a Signal chat when a journalist was added to a group of top officials..
