Russia Strikes Ukraine with 400 Drones

Russia launched a massive overnight assault on Ukraine using 400 drones and one missile, hitting critical energy infrastructure and injuring at least 15 people, Ukrainian authorities said on Wednesday.

The attacks primarily targeted Kharkiv, Kryvyi Rih, and Vinnytsia. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the strikes on social media, describing them as focused on Ukraine’s energy sector. Power outages affected more than 80,000 households in Kryvyi Rih and other parts of the Dnipropetrovsk region, according to energy company DTEK.

Ukraine’s air force reported shooting down most drones, but 57 drones and the missile managed to strike 12 key targets. These coordinated strikes are part of Russia’s increased campaign of long-range attacks during the summer.

In Vinnytsia, eight people were hurt, including workers at a Polish-owned factory reportedly targeted by drones. Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said the attack seemed deliberate and warned that the war is nearing Poland’s borders.

In Kryvyi Rih, local officials said water supplies were also impacted. A 17-year-old boy was critically wounded and remains in intensive care. Kharkiv experienced 17 explosions in just 20 minutes, leaving three people injured, according to regional authorities.

Though air defenses were activated in Kyiv, no damage or injuries were reported in the capital.

Zelenskyy emphasized the need for stronger air defenses and urged international partners to supply more equipment. U.S. President Donald Trump recently cited these Russian attacks while justifying his approval of more weapons for Ukraine, including advanced air defense systems.
