In a major boost to India’s private space sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated Skyroot Aerospace’s new Infinity Campus and unveiled the country’s first privately-built orbital rocket, Vikram-I.
The event marks a historic leap for India’s growing commercial space industry, positioning the nation as a strong player in the global small-satellite launch market.
🚀 What PM Modi Inaugurated
Skyroot’s Infinity Campus, a world-class 2-lakh sq ft facility in Hyderabad, will serve as the company’s headquarters for:
Rocket design
Integration
Testing
Full-scale manufacturing
The facility is capable of producing one orbital launch vehicle per month, making it one of the fastest-scaling private rocket factories in Asia.

🔧 Vikram-I: India’s First Private Orbital Rocket
Alongside the campus launch, PM Modi also unveiled Vikram-I, Skyroot’s first full orbital-class rocket.
Key capabilities include:
Ability to place small satellites into Low Earth Orbit (LEO)
Fully developed by a private Indian startup
Built with carbon composites and advanced propulsion systems
Aimed at fast, affordable commercial launches
The rocket’s maiden orbital mission is planned for early 2026, potentially placing India among nations with private orbital-launch capabilities.
