Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday for the 6th BIMSTEC Summit. He was given a special Guard of Honour as part of a grand ceremonial welcome.
Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra greeted PM Modi at the Government House, where they discussed ways to strengthen India-Thailand relations. India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, shared details of the welcome, calling it a special and warm reception.
“A special ceremonial welcome with Guard of Honour! PM Shinawatra warmly received PM Narendra Modi at the Government House in Bangkok. They will have important discussions on the future of India-Thailand ties,” Jaiswal posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Talks on Strengthening India-Thailand Ties
Earlier in the day, PM Modi and PM Shinawatra held discussions with their delegations. They talked about cooperation in various sectors to improve relations between India and Thailand.
PM Modi Watches Thai Ramayana Performance
PM Modi also attended a special performance of Ramakien, the Thai version of the Ramayana. The performance showcased the strong cultural ties between the two countries.
In Ramakien, Lord Rama is known as Phra Ram, and the story highlights similar values of sacrifice, devotion, and the triumph of good over evil.
After watching the performance, PM Modi shared his thoughts on X: “A cultural connection like no other! Witnessed a captivating performance of the Thai Ramayana, Ramakien. It was a truly enriching experience that beautifully showcased the shared cultural and civilisational ties between India and Thailand.”
Warm Welcome from the Indian Community
PM Modi also met members of the Indian community in Bangkok, who greeted him warmly with chants and prayers. He expressed his gratitude on X, saying, “Grateful for the warm welcome by the Indian community in Bangkok. India and Thailand share a deep-rooted cultural bond that continues to flourish through our people.”
PM Modi’s visit to Thailand highlights strong diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties between the two countries. His participation in the BIMSTEC Summit will further strengthen India’s partnership with Southeast Asian nations.
