Bhubaneswar: The first phase of the census will begin in Odisha from April. The second phase will be conducted in February 2027, officials said.
Two Phases of Census
During the first phase, house listing and asset details will be collected. In the second phase, officials will conduct door-to-door population enumeration across the state.
Large Number of Officials to Be Deployed
For the census exercise, around one lakh census officials will be appointed. One census officer will be responsible for about 200 houses. One supervisor will be appointed for every six census officers. Each census officer will be given a financial incentive of ₹25,000.
Preparations in Progress
Preparations for the census have been underway in the state for the past six months. Pre-testing has already been completed in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The boundaries of newly declared NACs and municipalities have also been finalised.
Training of Census Staff
Training of census officials will be conducted over the next three months. House marking work will be carried out during the first phase between April and May.
Review Meeting Held
The Development Commissioner has already held discussions with all district collectors. A state-level census coordination committee meeting was held at Lok Seva Bhavan in the presence of the Census Director and other senior officials.
Online Self-Registration Facility
People who wish to provide their details themselves can do so through the official website. The process will be OTP-based using a mobile number. One mobile number cannot be used more than once, and users will not be allowed to take screenshots during registration.
