Odisha Govt’s Move to Reappoint 800 Retired Police Officers Sparks Debate

Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to reappoint 800 retired police officers. Retired ASIs, SIs, and Inspectors will be given these jobs. They will work as Special Police Officers (SPOs). The Home Department has informed the Director General of Police (DGP) about this decision.

This decision has sparked debate because earlier the government was against giving jobs after retirement. Now, giving jobs to 800 retired officers in a sensitive department like the police has raised questions.

who will be eligible?

As per the guidelines, eligible officers must be below 65 years of age, possess a clean and commendable service record, and be physically fit. Their Confidential Character Reports (CCRs) for the five years preceding retirement must be satisfactory. Additionally, they should have no criminal cases or history of disciplinary action against them.

These appointments will be for one year. The DGP will form a selection committee to choose the officers, the Home Department said.

At the same time, lakhs of young aspirants are struggling with unemployment and are feeling frustrated. The Police SI examination has already been cancelled twice, and there is no clear information about when it will be conducted.
