Major Fire at SCB Medical College, Cuttack: 8 Patients Dead During Evacuation

Cuttack: A major fire broke out at SCB Medical College and Hospital in the early hours of Monday, causing panic inside the hospital. At least 8 patients reportedly died during the evacuation, and officials fear the death toll may rise.
How the Fire Broke Out
According to early reports, the fire started around 2:30 AM in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) area of the hospital. The flames quickly spread to nearby sections, creating chaos among patients, staff, and attendants.
Possible Cause
Initial reports suggest the fire may have been caused by a short circuit in ICU equipment, though the exact cause will be confirmed after a detailed investigation.
Casualties
So far, 8 patients have reportedly died during the evacuation process. Around 7 hospital staff members suffered burn injuries while trying to rescue patients.
Rescue Operations
Emergency teams rushed to the hospital and rescue operations are still ongoing. Many patients were shifted to safer wards, while relatives gathered outside the hospital, worried about their loved ones.
Government Response
Mohan Charan Majhi and Mukesh Mahaling visited the hospital early in the morning to review the situation.
The Chief Minister announced ₹25 lakh compensation for the families of each deceased patient.
