The Odisha government has moved to address growing concerns among civil services aspirants over the Odisha Civil Services Examination (OCS)–2025 after a review of the recently published notification issued by the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC).

The initial OCS–2025 advertisement had announced recruitment to 314 posts, but only 14 posts of the Odisha Police Service (OPS) were included under the Group-A category, while the rest belonged to Group-B services. Notably, most preferred administrative services such as the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) and Odisha Revenue Service (ORS) were missing from the main notification. The omission triggered widespread disappointment and anxiety among aspirants who have been preparing for years with a focus on these core services.

Following the backlash and student representations, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed the issue and directed officials to take immediate steps to fill vacant posts through the OCS-2025 process. Acting on his instructions, the state government has formally requested OPSC to include additional vacancies in key administrative cadres.

Govt Pushes for Revised OCS 2025 Vacancies

According to official sources, the government has sought recruitment for 14 posts in the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS), 113 posts in the Odisha Revenue Service (ORS), 16 posts in the Odisha Transport Service (OTS), and 8 posts in the Odisha Welfare Service (OWS). The proposal has been forwarded to OPSC for necessary action.

The move is seen as an attempt to strengthen the state’s administrative machinery while also responding to the sentiments of aspirants. Many candidates had earlier described the notification as “demoralising,” stating that the absence of OAS and ORS posts undermined years of preparation, financial investment, and personal sacrifice. Aspirant groups and coaching circles had urged the government to intervene and ensure transparency in the recruitment process.

Officials said the government remains committed to filling long-pending vacancies in a timely manner and maintaining fairness in civil services recruitment. OPSC is now expected to examine the requisition and issue a supplementary or revised notification for OCS-2025 after completing procedural formalities.

While aspirants have welcomed the government’s intervention, many continue to await official confirmation on the revised vacancy break-up. The coming days are expected to be crucial as OPSC prepares to clarify the updated recruitment plan for OCS-2025.
