Liverpool Crowned Premier League Champions
Liverpool have been officially crowned Premier League champions after a commanding 5-1 victory over Tottenham at Anfield. The triumph marks Liverpool’s 20th English top-flight title — drawing them level with Manchester United — and only their second Premier League crown since the competition’s rebranding in 1992.
Elsewhere in England, Crystal Palace and Manchester City booked their places in the FA Cup final with victories over Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, respectively.
In Spain, Barcelona edged Real Madrid 3-2 after extra time in a thrilling Copa del Rey final, claiming their first major trophy of the season. Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, kept their faint La Liga title hopes alive with a 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano.
The Serie A title race took another twist in Italy as Roma stunned Inter Milan, allowing Napoli to extend their lead at the top to three points following a 2-0 win against Torino. In Germany, Bayern Munich moved closer to another Bundesliga title with a comfortable 3-0 win over Mainz, though Bayer Leverkusen delayed their celebrations with a 2-0 victory against Augsburg. In France, Paris Saint-Germain — already crowned Ligue 1 champions weeks earlier — saw their unbeaten run end with a 1-3 loss to Nice.
Historic Title for Liverpool Under Arne Slot
Liverpool’s latest triumph sees them become only the seventh club to win the Premier League with four or more games to spare — and the first to clinch the title in April since Manchester City in 2017-18. Arne Slot, who replaced Jürgen Klopp at the start of the season, made an immediate impact by leading the Reds to glory.
Slot becomes the sixth manager to win the Premier League in his debut season at a club, joining an elite group that includes Antonio Conte, Claudio Ranieri, Manuel Pellegrini, Carlo Ancelotti, and José Mourinho. Impressively, he is the fourth-fastest to do so, sealing the title after just 330 days in charge — and he becomes the first Dutch manager ever to lift the Premier League trophy.
Van Dijk Joins Liverpool Legends
Captain Virgil van Dijk added his name to Liverpool’s rich history, becoming the 11th captain to lead the club to a top-flight title. The Dutch defender was ever-present throughout the season, playing every minute of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign so far — a feat he previously achieved during Liverpool’s 2019-20 title-winning run.
The Rise of Arne Slot
Dutch football expert Arthur Renard highlights Slot’s incredible journey, from his days as a promising midfielder at FC Zwolle to lifting the Premier League trophy with Liverpool. Slot, who hails from the village of Bergentheim near the German border, first caught the eye of coach Jan Everse in 1996. Despite showing early promise, Slot’s ascent required patience and hard work — traits that have defined his remarkable managerial rise.
Now, with a Premier League title already to his name, Arne Slot’s story at Liverpool is just beginning.
