Koraput: The Koraput district administration has imposed a one-day ban on the sale of non-vegetarian food items on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day.
As per an official letter issued by the Collectorate, Koraput, the sale of meat, chicken, fish, eggs, and other non-vegetarian items will remain prohibited across the district on January 26, 2026.

The directive has been sent to all Tahsildars, Block Development Officers (BDOs), and Executive Officers of urban local bodies, asking them to issue official notifications within their respective jurisdictions and ensure strict compliance.

The order aims to maintain the sanctity and decorum of the Republic Day celebrations in the district. Officials have been instructed to take necessary steps to enforce the ban and prevent any violations.

However, the decision has drawn mixed reactions from the public. While some people have welcomed the move, others have questioned the rationale behind it, stating that Republic Day is a national event and not a religious occasion to justify stopping the sale of non-vegetarian food.
Notably, the district administration has not clearly mentioned the specific reason behind the ban. Apart from citing the need to maintain decorum, no detailed explanation has been provided so far, and the actual reason behind the decision is yet to be known.
