Iran Israel War Updates:
At 06:08 BST, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced on social media that a ceasefire between Iran and Israel had come into effect. Roughly an hour later, Israel confirmed its acceptance of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire proposal. Iran had earlier signaled that it would halt its attacks if Israel agreed to do the same.
However, the truce was quickly put to the test. By 08:30 BST, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported intercepting missiles fired from Iran over northern Israel. Iran has denied launching any missiles, but the IDF stated that it would “respond with force” to any aggression.
Prior to the ceasefire, both nations engaged in intense overnight attacks. Iranian state media reported that waves of Israeli missiles struck Tehran and other major cities, leaving at least nine people dead, including a prominent nuclear scientist. Locals told BBC Persian that it was one of the most intense attacks since the conflict erupted 12 days ago.
In Israel, the city of Beersheba was also hit, resulting in the deaths of at least four people and injuring 22 others.
