Iran Nuclear Deal 2025 Talk Update:

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Friday that a deal with the United States on Iran’s nuclear program is possible if the U.S. is realistic. Speaking in Moscow after meeting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Araqchi stressed that the U.S. must show serious intent and avoid unreasonable demands for an agreement to be reached.

Last week, Iran and the U.S. held their first round of talks in Oman, where Araqchi noted the U.S. seemed serious. A second round is set for Saturday in Rome, facilitated by Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi. However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghei said the U.S. needs to clarify its intentions, as recent conflicting statements from U.S. officials have created confusion about their commitment.

A senior Iranian official revealed that during the Oman talks, Iran expressed willingness to accept some limits on its uranium enrichment but demanded firm assurances that President Donald Trump would not abandon the deal again, as he did in 2018. Trump has warned of military action against Iran if no agreement is reached. Iran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, but Western nations suspect it aims to develop nuclear weapons.

On Friday, when asked if Iran could continue its civilian nuclear program, Trump said his main goal is to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons. He added that he wants Iran to prosper but emphasized that nuclear weapons are unacceptable. Russia’s Lavrov offered to mediate or assist in the talks, noting Moscow’s past involvement in Iran’s nuclear negotiations as a U.N. Security Council member.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei sent Araqchi to Moscow with a letter for President Vladimir Putin to update Russia on the talks. Iranian state media also reported that Araqchi will visit Beijing soon, though no further details were provided.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the U.S. prefers a peaceful resolution with Iran but will not allow the country to develop nuclear weapons. The ongoing talks aim to address these tensions, with both sides navigating complex demands and past mistrust to reach a potential agreement.
