Indian Army Chief to review security situation

Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi will travel to Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday to check the security situation after a recent terror attack in Pahalgam. “General Dwivedi will head to Srinagar and Udhampur soon,” said defence officials.

The Army Chief will meet with top army commanders in the Kashmir Valley and officials from other security agencies. He will discuss the current security issues in the region and Pakistan’s attempts to break the ceasefire along the Line of Control.

On April 22, a terrorist attack in Pahalgam killed 26 tourists, causing anger across India. Protests have spread nationwide, with people demanding stronger action against Pakistan.

After the attack, the Indian government took several steps, including closing the Attari Integrated Check Post, stopping the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for Pakistani citizens (giving them 40 hours to leave), and reducing the number of officers in the High Commissions of both countries.

India has also paused the Indus Waters Treaty, signed in 1960, in response to the Pahalgam attack.
