Churu, Rajasthan – A Jaguar trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed during a routine training mission on Wednesday afternoon in Churu district, resulting in the tragic deaths of both pilots on board.

The aircraft went down around 1:25 PM in an agricultural field near Bhanoda village. According to Station House Officer Kamlesh of Rajaldesar, the crash occurred without causing any damage to civilian property.

In an official statement, the IAF confirmed the incident:

“An IAF Jaguar Trainer aircraft met with an accident during a routine training mission and crashed near Churu in Rajasthan, today. Both pilots sustained fatal injuries in the accident. No damage to any civil property has been reported.”

The Indian Air Force expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the families of the deceased pilots. A court of inquiry has been launched to determine the cause of the crash.

Recent IAF Aircraft Crashes

This is the latest in a series of training-related air accidents involving IAF fighter jets:

  • April 2025: A two-seater Jaguar aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Jamnagar Airfield during a night training exercise. One pilot, Siddharth Yadav, died from injuries sustained during ejection, while the other pilot was injured.

  • March 2025: A fighter jet crashed in Haryana’s Panchkula district during a routine sortie. The pilot experienced a system failure but managed to guide the aircraft away from populated areas and safely ejected.

  • February 2025: A twin-seater Mirage 2000 crashed near Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, during training. Both pilots ejected safely before impact.

  • November 2024: A MiG-29 fighter jet crashed near Agra, Uttar Pradesh, due to a technical fault. The pilot ejected in time and escaped unhurt.

These incidents have sparked ongoing discussions about the maintenance and modernization of India’s fighter aircraft fleet, especially those used for training purposes. Investigations into each crash are conducted by the IAF to prevent future accidents.
