NCERT Withdraws Class 8 Social Science Book, Issues Public Apology Over Judiciary Chapter

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has withdrawn a recently published Class 8 social science textbook and issued a public apology over concerns related to one of its chapters.

In an official press release, NCERT said the book titled “Exploring Society: India and Beyond” (Grade 8, Part II) has been completely withdrawn after issues were raised regarding Chapter IV: “The Role of Judiciary in our Society.”

Book Withdrawn After Concerns

According to the statement, the Director and members of NCERT offered an unconditional and unqualified apology for the content of the chapter.

The council confirmed that the entire book has been withdrawn and is no longer available for use or distribution.

Apology to Stakeholders

NCERT said it regrets any inconvenience caused due to the issue and thanked stakeholders for their understanding.

The organisation stated that it remains committed to ensuring accuracy, sensitivity, and responsibility in educational content.

Commitment to Educational Standards

In the statement, NCERT emphasized that maintaining high standards in textbooks remains a priority. The council assured that steps will be taken to ensure such concerns are addressed while preparing future educational material.

The development comes amid growing scrutiny of school textbooks and the role of institutions responsible for developing educational content in India.
