Cooking Gas Becomes Costlier as LPG Price Rises Nationwide

New Delhi: Households across India will now have to pay more for cooking gas. The price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder has been increased by ₹60 from March 7, according to official sources.

The new rates have come into effect immediately and will impact millions of families across the country.

This is the first price revision since April 2025, when LPG cylinder prices were last changed.

New LPG Prices in Major Cities

Following the increase, domestic LPG prices in several cities have been revised:

  • Bhubaneswar: ₹879 → ₹939

  • Delhi: ₹853 → ₹913

  • Mumbai: ₹852.50 → ₹912.50

  • Kolkata: ₹879 → ₹930

  • Chennai: ₹868.50 → ₹928.50

The rise means households will now have to spend more on a key daily necessity used for cooking.

Commercial LPG Cylinders Also Costlier

The price hike is not limited to domestic users. Commercial LPG cylinders (19-kg) used by hotels, restaurants, and businesses have also become more expensive.

The price of a commercial cylinder has increased by ₹115.

Updated prices in major cities are:

  • Delhi: ₹1,768.50 → ₹1,883

  • Mumbai: ₹1,720.50 → ₹1,835

  • Kolkata: ₹1,875.50 → ₹1,990

  • Chennai: ₹1,929 → ₹2,043.50

Experts say this increase could also affect restaurant prices and small businesses, as cooking gas is a major operating cost.

Why LPG Prices Are Rising

The increase comes at a time when global crude oil prices are under pressure.

Rising tensions in West Asia have created uncertainty in the global energy market, raising concerns about possible disruptions in oil and gas supplies.

Since India imports a large portion of its energy needs, international price movements often influence domestic fuel prices.

Government Assures Consumers

Despite the price increase, the government has assured that fuel availability in the country remains stable.

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri said India has sufficient energy supplies and there is no reason for consumers to worry.

He said the government’s priority is to ensure that citizens continue to receive affordable and reliable fuel.

What It Means for Consumers

For many households, LPG cylinders are an essential part of daily life. Even a small increase in price can affect monthly budgets.

The latest revision is expected to add pressure on household expenses, especially for families already dealing with rising costs of food, transportation, and utilities.

For now, consumers will have to adjust to the new prices while keeping an eye on future changes in global energy markets.
