Chinese Army Entered 60 km Inside Arunachal Pradesh, Says BJP MP; Indian Army Denies Claim The Eastern Times

Concerns over Chinese activities along the India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh have resurfaced after BJP MP Tapir Gao alleged that Chinese forces have moved 50–60 kilometres into the state in recent months.

China claims Arunachal Pradesh as part of its territory and has repeatedly objected to Indian activities in the region. Gao has raised concerns about the alleged Chinese activity in Parliament, warning that failure to respond could lead to a situation similar to the 2017 Doklam standoff.

BJP MP Raises Border Concerns

Gao said the concerns of people living near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) cannot be ignored. He particularly highlighted alleged increased activity by the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) in the Taksing area of Upper Subansiri district.

Gao said he had raised similar concerns in Parliament in 1999, but the issue did not receive adequate attention at the time. He again raised the matter during the recent Monsoon Session of Parliament.

In a social media post, Gao reiterated that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and its sovereignty is non-negotiable. He said India wants peace and friendly relations with its neighbours but would not compromise on the country's territorial integrity or national security.

Indian Army Rejects the Allegation

The Indian Army, however, has rejected the claims, describing reports that Chinese troops have occupied Indian territory or established camps inside India as baseless and untrue.

This makes the reported 50–60 km intrusion claim a matter of political allegation rather than an officially confirmed Chinese occupation of Indian territory.

Pema Khandu Seeks Discussion

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu said he would discuss the issue with local residents and defence officials to understand the situation on the ground.

The Ministry of External Affairs said India takes all matters concerning border security seriously. It also stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability along the LAC.

China Says Border Situation Is Stable

China, on the other hand, has maintained that the current border situation is generally stable.

The conflicting statements highlight the sensitivity of the India-China border issue. While political leaders and local communities continue to raise concerns over Chinese activities, Indian authorities have rejected claims of a confirmed large-scale Chinese occupation.

Why the Issue Matters

Arunachal Pradesh has long been one of the most sensitive points in India-China relations. Any significant change in the ground situation could have wider security implications for India and increase tensions along the LAC.

For now, the key question is whether the reported Chinese activity represents a genuine change in the ground situation or an escalation of long-standing border tensions.
