Bengaluru PGs Limit Meals to Twice a Day; Dosa and Puri Dropped from Menu Amid LPG Shortage

Bengaluru: Paying Guest (PG) accommodations in Bengaluru have temporarily reduced meal services due to a shortage of commercial cooking gas. The move comes amid supply disruptions linked to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
The PG Owners Welfare Association has issued new guidelines asking PG owners to conserve gas. According to the association, thousands of PG kitchens that feed lakhs of residents across the city are facing difficulty in getting commercial LPG cylinders.
Two Meals on Weekdays
As part of the temporary measure, PG residents will receive only two meals a day from Monday to Friday. However, three meals will continue on Saturdays and Sundays, the association said.
Arun Kumar, head of the association, stated that the shortage of commercial cylinders is now directly affecting people staying in rented PG accommodations.
Certain Foods Temporarily Avoided
PG owners have also been advised to avoid food items that require high gas consumption. Dishes such as dosa, puri, and chapati will be limited for a few days.
Instead, kitchens are encouraged to prepare meals that require less cooking time and gas, including Bisi Bele Bath, Chitranna, and Puliyogare. Simple options such as salads are also being recommended.
Shift to Electric Cooking
To manage the situation, PG owners are being encouraged to use induction stoves, electric rice cookers, and other electric appliances wherever possible.
The association said these measures are temporary and will remain in place until the gas supply situation improves.
