Andhra Pradesh Announces ₹25,000 Incentive for Second and Third Child

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a new policy to encourage families to have more children. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said couples who have a second or third child will receive ₹25,000 as financial assistance.
The announcement was made in the State Assembly as part of the government’s effort to increase the state’s declining birth rate.
Why the Government Took This Step
According to government data, many families in the state are choosing to have only one child.
- About 3 lakh families (58%) currently have only one child.
- Around 217 lakh families have two children.
- Nearly 62 lakh families have three or more children.
Officials said the state’s birth rate has dropped sharply over the years. In 1993, the birth rate in Andhra Pradesh was 3%, but it has now fallen to 1.5%.
The government believes that at least two children in a family are important to maintain population balance.

Under the scheme:
- Families will receive ₹25,000 when a second or third child is born.
- If a third child is born, the family will also receive ₹1,000 per month for five years.
- The third child will get free education until the age of 18.
Government’s Goal
The state government says the policy is aimed at encouraging families to have more children and improving the population growth rate.
Officials believe the financial support and education benefits will help families feel more confident about raising additional children.
