Airtel Becomes World’s 2nd Largest Telecom Operator with 650 Million Users

Bharti Airtel has crossed 650 million customers, becoming the world’s second-largest telecom operator. The announcement was made on April 2, 2026. The company now stands just behind China Mobile in global rankings.
Growth Across India and Africa
Airtel’s growth comes mainly from India and Africa. In India, it serves over 368 million users and was among the first to roll out 5G services. In Africa, its network covers 14 countries with around 179 million customers. Services like Airtel Money have also boosted its user base significantly.
Expanding Digital Services
Apart from mobile services, Airtel has grown its broadband and digital TV businesses. It now connects millions of homes through high-speed internet and television services, building a strong digital ecosystem.
