DRDO Successfully Tests Pralay Missile’s Full Range Capability
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully completed user trials of the indigenous ‘Pralay’ missile system, testing both its maximum and minimum range capabilities. The tests were conducted over two days from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, located off the Odisha coast.
According to officials, the Pralay missile—powered by solid fuel and equipped with advanced navigation and guidance technology—hit its target with precision on both days. The Defence Ministry confirmed that all test objectives were met, and the missile followed its intended trajectory accurately.
Tracking sensors, including those placed on a ship near the target area, recorded performance data. All subsystems functioned as expected.
Pralay is capable of carrying various types of warheads to neutralize different kinds of targets. The missile system was developed by DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat in collaboration with several other DRDO labs, such as:
Defence Research and Development Laboratory
Advanced Systems Laboratory
Armament Research and Development Establishment
High Energy Materials Research Laboratory
Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory
Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory
R&D Establishment (Engineers)
Integrated Test Range (ITR)
Key industry partners included Bharat Dynamics Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited, and several MSMEs.
The flight tests were witnessed by senior DRDO scientists, representatives from the Indian Air Force and Army, and members of the involved industries.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, the Armed Forces, and industry collaborators for the successful trials. He said the Pralay system, with its advanced technology, will enhance India’s defence capabilities.
DRDO Chairman and Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D, Dr. Samir V. Kamat, congratulated the teams and noted that the successful completion of this trial phase clears the path for the missile’s induction into the Armed Forces soon.
Key Highlights:
DRDO successfully tested both the maximum and minimum range of the Pralay missile.
The missile showed pinpoint accuracy and met all mission objectives.
Developed indigenously with contributions from multiple DRDO labs and Indian defence industries.
Equipped to carry different warheads and strike various target types.
Induction into Indian Armed Forces is expected soon.
