Apna Ghar: Govt Launches 368 Highway Rest Stops for Truck Drivers Across India

Govt Launches ‘Apna Ghar’ Highway Facilities to Support Truck Drivers’ Welfare

In a significant step toward improving the welfare of truck drivers during extended journeys, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has launched a dedicated programme called ‘Apna Ghar’. This initiative aims to offer clean, safe, and comfortable rest facilities for truckers along the country’s major highways.

As of July 1, 2025, Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have established 368 Apna Ghar centers, providing a total of 4,611 beds at fuel stations situated on national and state highways. These rest stops include dormitory-style lodging, eateries or dhabas, clean restrooms, bathing areas, self-cooking zones, and access to safe drinking water—designed to enhance the quality of life for truck drivers during their trips.

The programme has received encouraging feedback from the trucking community, with increasing usage of the Apna Ghar mobile app, including more bookings and user registrations. Drivers have praised the initiative for the convenience and comfort it brings to their long road journeys.

This information was shared by Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Suresh Gopi, in a written statement to the Lok Sabha. He noted that the initiative is part of the government’s larger effort to support truck drivers—crucial contributors to India’s logistics and supply chain network—by providing improved roadside infrastructure and better working conditions.
