New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will officially launch Bharat Taxi on 5th February, introducing a revolutionary cooperative model to India’s ride-hailing market. After a successful two-month trial, the platform is ready to challenge the dominance of private giants like Uber and Ola.
The “Driver is King” Model
Unlike traditional apps that take heavy commissions, Bharat Taxi operates as a cooperative. Under the slogan ‘Sarathi Hi Malik’ (The Driver is the Owner), the platform ensures:
Zero Commission: Drivers keep the full fare.
No Surge Pricing: Flat, fair rates for passengers regardless of demand.
Direct Profits: Earnings go straight to the “Sarathis” (drivers) without middlemen.
Rapid Growth & Success
Since the pilot began in December across Delhi-NCR and Gujarat, the numbers have been staggering:
3 Lakh+ Drivers enrolled.
10,000+ Daily rides completed.
₹10 Crore Already paid out to drivers.
Security & Inclusivity
The platform isn’t just about rides; it’s about a safety net. It offers health and accident insurance, retirement plans, and 24/7 support centers.
A standout feature is the “Bike Didi” program, which has already empowered over 150 women to enter the bike-taxi workforce, promoting safer and more inclusive transit options.
What’s Next?
National Expansion: The goal is to reach every Indian city within two years.
Official Launch: Tomorrow, the top six drivers will receive share certificates and ₹10 lakh in combined insurance coverage.
Digital Integration: Nine new deals (MoUs) will be signed to link the app with India’s national digital infrastructure.
By removing commissions and giving drivers ownership, Bharat Taxi aims to create a more sustainable and affordable way for India to move.
