Manchester City Football Club is opening its first football academy in India, and it will be based in Kolkata. The English club has signed an agreement with Techno India Group to set up the academy, which will be called the Man City Football School.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this project was signed on Tuesday in London. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the signing ceremony. She is currently visiting London to attract investments for the state. Banerjee expressed her happiness about the collaboration, saying that it will create great opportunities for young footballers in India.
The football school will not only train students from West Bengal but will also welcome players from across India. It aims to help young talents improve their skills and receive world-class training following Manchester City’s football philosophy.
Techno India Group, which runs multiple colleges, universities, and schools in West Bengal, will work with Manchester City to manage the academy. The football school will offer specialized training programs designed for different age groups, helping children and teenagers develop their technical and tactical football skills.
Manchester City will send expert coaches from its home base in England to train young players in Kolkata. The training methods will be based on the same high standards used in Manchester City’s youth academies. The program will focus on both individual player development and team-building skills.
For talented players, the academy may provide special opportunities to visit Manchester City’s training facilities in the UK. These students will get a chance to train in an international environment and gain valuable experience at a top football club.
Jorgina Busquets, Managing Director – Football Education, Recreation and Partner Clubs for City Football Group, commented: “We are delighted to be opening our first Manchester City Football School in Kolkata with Techno India Group, who are a leading education provider to children and young adults throughout the country.
Apart from training, the academy will also monitor students’ progress closely. Each player will receive personalized performance reports, helping them understand their strengths and areas for improvement. This structured approach aims to nurture future football stars from India.
The football school has already started pre-registration for students from Techno India Group institutions. It plans to open enrollment to more young footballers in 2025.
This partnership between Manchester City and Techno India Group is a big step forward for football development in India. It brings international-level training to young Indian players and gives them a platform to showcase their talent. With the guidance of professional coaches and exposure to world-class football techniques, aspiring footballers in India will have a unique opportunity to pursue their dreams.
