India-Pakistan Visa Suspend:

In response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that killed 26 civilians, the Indian government has announced strong actions against Pakistan. On Thursday, it suspended all visa services for Pakistani nationals, along with several other security and diplomatic steps aimed at pressuring Pakistan over its alleged support for terrorism.

After a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of External Affairs released new rules. Starting April 27, all valid Indian visas issued to Pakistani citizens are canceled. Only medical visas will stay valid until April 29, giving a short grace period for urgent health-related travel.

Pakistani nationals currently in India must leave before their visas expire. Indian citizens have been told not to travel to Pakistan, and those who are already there are being urged to return soon.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said at a press conference that these steps show India’s firm position against terrorism. “We are taking these actions seriously, and we want to hold those behind the attack—and those who support them—responsible,” he said.

One of the biggest decisions is suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, a 1960 agreement on sharing river water between India and Pakistan. The treaty will stay suspended until Pakistan clearly stops supporting terrorism.

India has also shut down the Attari Integrated Check Post, a major land border crossing with Pakistan. Pakistani citizens who came to India through this route will be allowed to return home before May 1.

On the diplomatic side, India has asked Pakistan’s military advisors at its High Commission in New Delhi to leave within seven days. India will also pull back its military advisors from its own High Commission in Islamabad. Five support staff members from each side will also return home.

Both countries will reduce the number of officials at their High Commissions from 55 to 30 by May 1.

Highlights:
  • India suspends all visas for Pakistani nationals starting April 27.

  • Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan put on hold over terrorism concerns.

  • Attari border crossing closed; limited return allowed until May 1.

  • Military advisors from both nations to be withdrawn from High Commissions.

  • High Commission staff strength cut from 55 to 30 on both sides by May 1.
