Tens of thousands of people took to the streets across the United States and parts of Europe on Saturday in the largest wave of anti-Trump protests since his return to the White House. Demonstrators rallied in over 1,000 American cities and several international capitals to voice opposition against President Donald Trump’s policies.
The protests were part of a coordinated “Hands Off” campaign organized by progressive groups such as MoveOn and the Women’s March, aiming to resist what they describe as authoritarian governance, civil liberties rollbacks, and controversial foreign and trade policies.
Trump Protests USA: Demonstrations Erupt Nationwide
Large-scale rallies took place in major cities including Washington D.C., New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Denver, and Miami. Protesters condemned the president’s moves to downsize the government, implement strict conservative laws, and pressure allied nations with aggressive trade tariffs.
In Washington D.C., thousands of demonstrators filled the National Mall, waving placards and chanting slogans against Trump’s administration. Organizers expected around 20,000 participants, but by afternoon, the crowd was estimated to be much larger.
“We’re here to protect our democracy,” said Diane Kolifrath, a 64-year-old bike tour guide from New Hampshire. “This administration is gutting the government and isolating us from our allies.”
From Art to Activism: Protesters Make Bold Statements
In New York City, artist Shaina Kesner, 43, marched through Manhattan, expressing outrage:
“I’m angry all the time. A bunch of privileged white men are trying to control this country. It’s not okay.”
In Los Angeles, a woman dressed as a character from The Handmaid’s Tale waved a flag that read, “Get out of my uterus,” in protest against Trump’s anti-abortion policies.
A Denver protester held up a sign declaring, “No King for USA,” symbolizing opposition to authoritarian rule.
Global Support: Trump Protests Extend to Europe
Protests weren’t limited to the U.S. Demonstrators gathered in London and Berlin to support the anti-Trump movement. In London, Liz Chamberlin, a dual U.S.-British citizen, said:
“What’s happening in America is everyone’s problem. It’s economic lunacy, and it could lead to a global recession.”
In Berlin, 70-year-old Susanne Fest called the U.S. situation “a constitutional crisis,” adding, “The guy is a lunatic.”
Strong Voices at the National Mall
Prominent figures joined the rally in Washington, including Representative Jamie Raskin, who served as impeachment manager during Trump’s second trial. Addressing the crowd, he said:
“No moral person wants an economy-crashing dictator who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.”
Civil rights activist Graylan Hagler, 71, added:
“They’ve woken up a sleeping giant. We will not sit down, we will not be quiet, and we will not go away.”
Peaceful but Passionate Demonstrations
Despite strong emotions and large crowds, the rallies remained largely peaceful. The atmosphere in Washington was notably upbeat, with people of all ages attending, including families with young children.
Organizers emphasized the importance of nonviolent resistance and democratic expression in the face of what they believe is rising authoritarianism in the U.S.
Trump’s Approval Falls Amid Rising Dissent
As protests rise, so do signs of political trouble for President Trump. His approval ratings have dropped to their lowest levels since returning to office, according to recent national polls. However, Trump continues to enjoy strong support from his base, and the White House has dismissed the protests, saying they do not reflect mainstream opinion.
In a recent statement, President Trump declared:
“My policies will never change.”
