Jhulasan, Gujarat – Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams has safely returned to Earth after spending over nine months in space. Her safe landing has sparked celebrations in her ancestral village, Jhulasan, in Gujarat, where residents expressed their pride and joy.
Sunita Williams, along with fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore, landed safely on March 18, 2025, after an extended stay aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Initially, her mission was planned for a short duration, but technical challenges with the Boeing Starliner spacecraft prolonged her time in orbit.

Upon her return, NASA confirmed that the astronauts were in good health and would undergo medical evaluations after their long mission in space.
As news of her safe return spread, the people of Jhulasan, where Sunita Williams’ ancestors lived, erupted in celebrations. The village, which has always taken immense pride in her achievements, organized prayers and special ceremonies to mark the occasion.
Residents gathered at the village temple, offering ‘aarti’ and prayers for her well-being. Women performed traditional folk dances, sweets were distributed, and fireworks lit up the night sky in honor of her achievement.
“Sunita is our pride, and we always pray for her success. Today, we celebrate her safe return to Earth,” said an elderly villager.
