Oman Targets Indian Tourists for MICE Events & Destination Weddings

Oman attracts indians for destination weddings
Oman is actively working to attract more tourists from India, particularly for corporate events and destination weddings. According to Arjun Chadha, Country Manager for Oman Tourism in India, the country is focusing on the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. Several Indian businesses have already started considering Oman for such events.
Oman’s goal is to increase participation in this market and build a loyal clientele that frequently hosts MICE events in the country. The sultanate has been consistently promoting its tourism offerings in India, leading to six lakh Indian visitors in 2023. To further boost this number, the Oman embassy launched the “A Journey to Explore Oman” campaign in September last year, aiming to raise the Indian tourist count to seven lakh.
A promising trend has been observed in Indian tourist arrivals, thanks to Oman’s diverse attractions. The country offers three distinct regions with unique experiences:
  1. Muscat – The vibrant capital city.
  2. Salalah – Known for its lush greenery and waterfalls.
  3. Jabal Akhdar – Famous for its mountains and valleys.
In August 2024, Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism identified India as one of its key target markets outside the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The country is relying on factors like geographical proximity, simplified visa processes, and promotional roadshows in major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata to boost tourism from India.
Chadha emphasized that Oman is prioritizing tourism as a key sector for national development. While corporate clients regularly choose Oman for MICE events, the country is also becoming popular for destination weddings.
The Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Muscat, is particularly attractive to Indian couples due to its historical and royal significance. Many Indian weddings have already taken place at this venue, and the number is expected to rise. Other venues across Oman also offer picturesque locations for beach weddings, supported by resorts with ample space.
Additionally, Oman’s large Indian community strengthens its hospitality sector. Salalah, in the southern part of the country, is an excellent venue for large gatherings, including corporate meetings, product launches, and wedding celebrations.
Muscat’s proximity to Dubai, just a four-hour drive away, also makes it appealing to travelers who wish to visit both destinations. With a combination of business and personal travel options, Oman continues to position itself as a prime location for Indian tourists.
