Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Condemns Pahalgam Terror Attack, Supports Government Actions

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Monday passed a resolution condemning the terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people. The session started with a two-minute silence to honor the victims. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary presented the resolution during a special session.

The Assembly said the attack was not just an act of violence but also an attack on “Kashmiriyat,” the Indian Constitution, and the spirit of unity, peace, and harmony in Jammu and Kashmir.

The resolution also paid tribute to Shaheed Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a pony ride operator who died while trying to save tourists during the attack. It praised the people of Jammu and Kashmir for showing unity and strength after the tragedy and for supporting the victims.

The Assembly further backed the steps taken by the Central Government after the Cabinet Committee on Security meeting on April 23. These steps include:

  • Suspending the Indus Waters Treaty signed in 1960.

  • Closing the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari.

  • Stopping the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals.

  • Reducing diplomatic staff at the High Commissions in India and Pakistan.
