IND vs ENG 2nd Test, Shubman Gill:
India dominated Day 2 of the second Test at Lord’s, posting a mammoth 587, thanks to a stunning double-century by captain Shubman Gill. The right-hander batted with calm and authority, registering 269 — the highest-ever Test score by an Indian on English soil. His innings, studded with fluent drives and impeccable timing, was the backbone of India’s resurgence after being in a spot of bother at 211/5 on Day 1.
Ravindra Jadeja (89) once again proved invaluable with the bat, adding 200 runs alongside Gill. Though Jadeja fell to a fiery short ball by Josh Tongue before lunch, the pair had already laid a strong foundation. Later, Washington Sundar provided handy support until he was bowled by Joe Root, misjudging a delivery that beat his defense.
England’s bowlers toiled hard on a largely unresponsive pitch. Josh Tongue was the pick, removing both Jadeja and Gill. Chris Woakes, Ben Stokes, and Shoaib Bashir chipped in with key wickets, but their short-ball strategy failed to contain Gill.
India will now aim to press the advantage with the ball and avoid the dramatic collapses that cost them the first Test.
Highlights:
Gill’s Monumental Knock: Shubman Gill smashed a career-best 269 off 387 balls — now the highest Test score by an Indian batter in England.
India Post 587: Despite a late collapse, India posted a commanding 587 in 151 overs, after resuming Day 2 at 310/5.
Jadeja-Gill Partnership: A vital 200-run stand between Jadeja (89) and Gill helped India recover from 211/5 and cross the 400-run mark.
