Taiwan Reports Increased Chinese Military Activity Near Island

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported on Sunday that it had tracked a total of 11 Chinese military aircraft, seven naval vessels, and one official ship operating near the island by 6 a.m. (local time).

According to the MND’s post on X, nine out of the 11 aircraft sorties crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, entering the island’s southwestern and eastern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ).

In response to these incursions, Taiwan deployed its own fighter jets, naval vessels, and coastal missile systems to closely monitor and manage the situation.

This recent activity follows a similar show of force just a day earlier, when Taiwan detected 34 Chinese aircraft, eight warships, and another official vessel operating in the surrounding areas.

Beijing, which views Taiwan as a breakaway province, has consistently used such military maneuvers to signal its readiness to assert control over the island—by force if necessary. Analysts believe these repeated operations are intended to intimidate Taiwan’s 23 million citizens, degrade the island’s military capabilities, and sap the morale of its defence forces.

Highlights:

  • Taiwan reports 11 Chinese aircraft, 7 warships near its territory.

  • Nine PLA aircraft crossed the median line into Taiwan’s ADIZ.

  • Taiwan scrambled jets, ships, and missile systems in response.

  • A similar incursion was reported a day earlier involving 34 aircraft.

  • China continues aggressive posturing, vowing to reclaim Taiwan by force if necessary.
