Tech Layoffs 2025: Microsoft

The tech industry is facing a major wave of layoffs in 2025, with major players like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and IBM letting go of thousands of workers. This widespread restructuring is being driven by slow revenue growth, global economic uncertainty, and the rising use of artificial intelligence, which is changing many traditional job roles.

According to data from Layoffs. fyi, more than 61,000 tech workers have lost their jobs this year across over 130 companies. Microsoft has cut around 6,000 positions, focusing more on engineering roles while reducing management and administrative staff. Google has laid off hundreds of employees from its Android, Pixel, and Chrome divisions, following a voluntary exit program.

IBM is reported to have laid off around 8,000 workers, mainly from its Human Resources department, as AI takes over many HR tasks. Amazon has recently cut about 100 jobs from its Devices and Services division, and Microsoft is also planning job reductions in its Xbox division.

Dating app company Bumble, based in Austin, Texas, is planning to lay off about 240 employees — roughly 30% of its total workforce. The company’s board has approved this move as part of a plan to improve efficiency and restructure operations. In a recent filing, Bumble said the job cuts are expected to save around $40 million annually. These savings will mostly be used to support new developments in technology and products.
