JD Vance on pahalgam attack

US Vice President JD Vance has called for a cautious response from India following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people. Speaking on Fox News’ Special Report, Vance urged India to avoid actions that could lead to a “wider regional conflict” and pressed Pakistan to collaborate with India in tackling extremism.

The attack, the deadliest since the 2019 Pulwama strike, occurred during Vance’s four-day visit to India with his family. Vance, who had previously condemned the attack on X and expressed solidarity with the victims, emphasized the need for de-escalation amid rising India-Pakistan tensions.

US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth spoke with Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, offering condolences and reaffirming the United States’ strong support for India. Vance noted the US’s ongoing communication with both nations, saying, “We hope that Pakistan, to the extent that they’re responsible, cooperates with India to ensure terrorists operating in their territory are dealt with.”

The Pahalgam attack drew widespread condemnation from global leaders, who denounced terrorism and expressed solidarity with India.
