DeepSeek
The Chinese AI app DeepSeek is back on South Korean app stores after a two-month suspension. Downloads were halted in February due to data privacy violations, as the app shared user data without permission. South Korea’s data protection agency noted the issue after DeepSeek launched in January.
Now, DeepSeek is available again on Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store. The app updated its privacy policy to follow South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Act. Users can choose not to share their data with companies in China and the U.S.
DeepSeek didn’t respond to requests for comment. The data protection agency said the app was relaunched after addressing some of their recommendations.
Why DeepSeek was Suspended in South Korea?
DeepSeek was suspended in South Korea because it transferred user data and prompts without permission, violating the country’s Personal Information Protection Act. The issue was identified by South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission after the app launched in January, leading to a download suspension in February
